Welcome

As we journey through 1 Peter together, we want to equip you as households to have conversations with one another about the sermon series. Each week, there will be a blog post featuring a brief recap of the sermon passage for the week, a few quick ideas for how your family can dive deeper into the passage together during the week, and a challenge for you to complete and share using the hashtag #1peterchallenge.

Recap

1 Peter 1:13-21 By Lindsey

Did you know that there are metals so special we call them “precious metals”? Can you guess the two best-known precious metals? If you guessed silver and gold, you’re right! Silver and gold have been considered precious for a very long time. In this passage, Peter uses gold and silver to help us understand something even more precious—the blood of Jesus. In this passage, Peter echoes God’s call to his people to be holy as God is holy, but he reminds us that we cannot do this on our own—Jesus is the only one who can make us holy.

Going Deeper With…

Preschoolers

Read “The Sun Stops Shining” from The Jesus Storybook Bible, or watch it here.

After you read or watch the story together, ask questions like this:

  • I wonder how you feel about this story.

  • I wonder what this story makes you think of.

  • I wonder what you would like to say to Jesus about this story.

Elementary Kids

Read 1 Peter 1:13-21 in a child-friendly version of the Bible (like the NIrV).

  • What does Peter tell us to do with our hope?

  • I wonder what it means to live as God’s obedient children.

  • Can you be holy on your own?

  • What does vs. 18 remind you of, make you think of? I wonder if you have any questions about it.

Middle & High Schoolers

Read 1 Peter 1:13-21 in the New Living Translation.

  • Peter says to “prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control.” How do God’s people (including you) do this?

  • Peter says that we should live obedient, holy lives. Why?

  • God bought you out of slavery with the precious blood of Jesus. Do you trust and live for the One you belong to? If not, trust him now! If so, thank and praise God for loving you so much that he gave his own life for yours!

1 Peter Challenge

#1peterchallenge | Hang a large piece of paper on a wall in your house and write, “Be holy because I am holy.” Throughout the week, write or draw pictures of the things that remind you of God’s holiness on the list. Each night, practice telling the truth about God together with these words: “God, you are holy. Many days we choose to be unholy. Forgive us for the things we have done and chosen not to do today. We are your children in Jesus; help us to walk in holiness.”  At the end of the week, share a picture of your paper using the hashtag #1peterchallenge.
